Why exhibit at the Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show?

Since 1988 the Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show has championed the arts, welcoming discerning consumers and art lovers who buy quality, buy handmade and buy local. We believe that art inspires the soul and we’re committed to supporting art and craft creators, encouraging appreciation of the visual arts and giving artists a place to showcase and sell their work. After a significant overhaul in 2023 to reflect artists’ feedback, last year’s show received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Artists tell us it is their favourite show and visitors tell us they love the variety, the laid-back atmosphere and the high quality and diversity of the exhibits and the exhibitors. It’s an outdoor gallery where art and craft lovers can experience juried exhibits, talk to artists, designers and artisans and buy one-of-a-kind pieces from some of Canada’s most creative talent.

Against the beautiful backdrop of historical Cabbagetown, the show nestles in tree-lined Riverdale Park West over the weekend after Labour Day. It’s the perfect setting to spend time connecting with other artists and talking to engaged buyers.

The Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show has a large following of loyal art lovers. They’ve been coming to the show for years, knowing they’ll find high-quality work created by talented local artists and artisans. Many creative consumers live in Cabbagetown and nearby neighbourhoods, and they enjoy collecting the works of both established and rising talent. As one of the last outdoor shows of the summer, we know that lots of our visitors see this as an opportunity to start their Holiday shopping early!

The show is juried to ensure high standards of quality, skill and creativity. Each year the jury honours a handful of artists with a series of monetary awards. The awards range in value and include partial or full admission for the following year’s show.

The record number of applications is making the show more competitive than ever. Artists who submit by March 31 will be notified of their acceptance status by the end of April. Artists who submit after March 31 but by May 31 will be notified of their acceptance status before the end of June. Some media categories can fill up quickly so it’s advisable to apply before March 31 if possible.

Please be aware that all jury decisions are final.

What does it cost to participate?

Cabbagetown Art & Craft is a community-based not-for-profit corporation. Keeping costs down is a priority for us. It’s how we help artists showcase and sell their work at every stage of their careers. To exhibit, artists pay an application and a booth fee, and keep 100% of their sales proceeds. We understand the economic challenges everyone is facing so we are holding our 2023 Booth Fee for 2024.

We’ve listened to artist feedback and we made several improvements to the show in 2023 which will be continued in 2024:

  • Assigned booths – to avoid the early Friday rush

  • Any rented tents will already be up for move-in on Friday morning

  • Sunday closing at 5pm for an easier move-out

Application fee
There’s a non-refundable application fee of $40 + HST. This goes towards processing and administering your application.

Booth fee
Each 10 x 10 booth location is $415 + HST (our HST# 84570 9039 RT0001). Your booth fee covers your participation in the show. It includes an assigned booth space and an online listing for one year on the Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show website, including a direct link to the artist’s website. Although the booth fee includes the 3 day rental of the space allocated to your 10 x 10 tent, you are allowed to expand back into the park within reason. If you would like to do this, please ensure you have made the request on your application. Booth fees are payable by Interac e-transfer and are due when artists receive their acceptance notices (by end of April for those who applied by the March 31 deadline and before the end of June for those who applied by the May 31 deadline).

Tent and equipment rental

If you do not own your tent and/or equiupment, tent and equipment rentals are available. Following jurying, more information about rentals will be available to artists who are accepted into the show. Rental tents will be up and ready for move-in on the Friday morning.
